Arch Manning, the talented quarterback for Texas, is making waves in his first full season as the starter. Head Coach Steve Sarkisian couldn't be prouder of the young player's growth and decision-making skills.
"He's truly blossoming before our very eyes," Sarkisian gushed. "I'm incredibly proud of his progress. It's been a challenging year, and he's earned every bit of success he's achieving."
Manning's performance in Week 10 was exceptional, completing an impressive 75.8% of his passes for 328 yards and three touchdowns. Texas is now on a four-game winning streak, a remarkable turnaround after a rough start.
But here's where it gets interesting. Manning's journey hasn't been a smooth ride. He faced significant challenges in his first five starts, struggling against powerhouse teams like Ohio State and Florida. However, his performance improved against lesser opponents, showcasing a 64.3% completion rate and an impressive touchdown-to-interception ratio.
Last week, in an overtime thriller against Mississippi State, Manning had a breakout game, throwing for a season-high 346 yards and three touchdowns. Despite a concussion scare, he bounced back and delivered a solid performance. This win followed more modest showings against Oklahoma and Kentucky, where he still managed to contribute to the team's success.
As Texas continues its journey, Sarkisian was asked if the victory over Vanderbilt was a "statement win." He cautiously avoided a direct answer, emphasizing the team's need to stay focused after their SEC opener loss.
"Every win is a statement right now," Sarkisian clarified. "We're in a tough spot, and we need to take it one game at a time."
With a record of 7-2, Texas is currently 4-1 in the SEC, trailing behind Ole Miss, Alabama, and Texas A&M. The road ahead is challenging, especially if they aim to replicate their 2024 success, where they posted a 7-1 mark in conference play.
However, with Manning's continued improvement, Texas has a fighting chance. His performance on Saturday was one of his best this season, and his efficiency has only increased since the Red River Rivalry win.
So, will Texas make it back to the SEC Championship Game? Only time will tell, but with Manning at the helm, they're certainly in with a fighting chance.
